Brussels Airlines Expands Sub-Saharan Africa Operations for Summer 2025
Brussels Airlines has announced its long-haul network expansion for the summer of 2025, with an impressive focus on sub-Saharan Africa. The Belgian airline is set to operate 56 weekly flights to the region, marking a 10% capacity increase compared to summer 2024. This growth comes as the airline prepares to introduce its 11th long-haul aircraft in June 2025, enhancing its presence in Africa.

Increased Frequencies Across Africa
With the new aircraft in operation, several African destinations will see upgraded flight schedules.
Nairobi (Kenya) and Accra (Ghana) will receive daily flights, offering more convenience to travelers.
Banjul (Gambia), Freetown (Sierra Leone), and Conakry (Guinea) will benefit from additional frequencies.
Dakar (Senegal) and Abidjan (Ivory Coast) will transition to more direct flights instead of triangular routes, providing faster and more efficient travel options.
Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo) will receive daily non-stop flights starting March 2025, replacing the previous schedule of five weekly direct flights and two with an intermediate stop in Luanda (Angola).
The changes are part of Brussels Airlines’ commitment to offering more comfortable, sustainable, and reliable services to its passengers.

Kinshasa
Kinshasa holds special significance for Brussels Airlines. As the airline’s flagship route, its history traces back nearly a century when Belgium first sought to connect the Congolese capital to Brussels by air.
“Upgrading this route to a daily non-stop connection shows our unwavering commitment to the Democratic Republic of the Congo,” said Dorothea von Boxberg, CEO of Brussels Airlines.
The shift to daily direct flights will enhance passenger convenience and reduce the likelihood of delays, making it a highly attractive option for travelers.
Consolidated Flights to Luanda
To streamline its operations, Brussels Airlines will hand over flights to Luanda to Lufthansa. Starting March 25, 2025, Lufthansa will operate three weekly direct flights between Luanda and Frankfurt, ensuring connectivity to Angola. Passengers already booked on Brussels Airlines flights to Luanda will be rebooked onto Lufthansa’s direct flights, eliminating the need for intermediate stops.
North Atlantic Operations
In addition to its African routes, Brussels Airlines maintains a robust North Atlantic network with direct flights to New York (JFK) and Washington DC (IAD).
Looking ahead, Brussels Airlines plans to expand its long-haul fleet to 13 aircraft by 2027. Alongside this growth, the airline aims to introduce new cabin interiors across Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy Class, offering enhanced comfort for its passengers.
