Kenya Defense Forces Receive Refurbished Z9 Helicopters from China
On Wednesday, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) welcomed newly refurbished Z9 helicopters, a gift from China Aviation Technology Import and Export Corporation (CATIC). The official handover ceremony took place at the Kenya Army Corps of Aviation in Embakasi Garrison, Nairobi. Commander of the Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Tarus, presided over the event.
According to a statement by KDF, this partnership with CATIC marks an important milestone in boosting Kenya’s military strength. The Z9 helicopters, primarily designed for transporting troops, add advanced capability to Kenya’s military fleet, reinforcing national defense and regional stability.
The collaboration between KDF and CATIC goes beyond just equipment. It includes the procurement of military assets, technology sharing, joint training exercises, and strategic cooperation. Together, these elements contribute to the readiness and resilience of Kenya’s armed forces.
In his remarks, Lt. Gen. Tarus emphasized that these new helicopters will enable the Kenya Army to perform its duties more effectively. “Our partnership fosters a culture of collaboration and trust,” he stated, “Together, we will continue to innovate, improve, and push the boundaries of military aviation.” He added that success in maintaining safe airspace relies not only on technology but also on the relationships built with trusted allies.
