Renegade Air Introduces the First ATR-500 in Kenya
In partnership with leading aircraft lessor Abelo and the world’s top regional aircraft manufacturer ATR, Renegade Air has proudly introduced the first ATR-500 aircraft in Kenya. The aircraft leased from Abelo was officially launched during a ceremony held at Wilson Airport. This is a major step forward for Renegade Air, allowing them to meet the growing demand for efficient air services across Kenya and the region.
The ATR-500, known for its excellent performance and reliability, has been converted into a cargo aircraft to support Renegade Air’s growing operations. It will help the airline deliver goods like e-commerce packages, pharmaceuticals, and fresh produce to even the most remote areas, thanks to its ability to operate on unpaved runways and in hot climates.
Tasneem Kaderbhai, Renegade Air’s Commercial Manager, shared her excitement: “Our new ATR-500 cargo aircraft will be a game-changer for us. It will boost our ability to provide fast and efficient air cargo services to our customers. This is a key milestone for Renegade Air as we continue to strengthen our role in the air cargo industry in Kenya.”
The ATR-500 is part of ATR’s sustainable fleet, which consumes less fuel and is more cost-effective in terms of maintenance compared to older aircraft. Its modern design also helps airlines reduce their carbon footprint, making it a popular choice for operators looking for greener solutions.
In Africa, the market for turboprop aircraft, like ATRs, is growing. Kenya alone has more than 80 turboprop aircraft in operation. ATR aircraft are becoming the go-to choice for domestic and regional flights, with potential to serve routes from both Wilson Airport and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Abelo’s Chief Marketing Officer, Mathieu Duquesnoy, said, “We are thrilled to work with Renegade Air to bring the first ATR-500 aircraft to Kenya. This collaboration shows our commitment to providing airlines with customized leasing solutions that meet their operational needs.”
Michael Chassot, ATR’s Sales Director for EMEA, added, “Renegade Air’s selection of the ATR-500 represents a strong partnership with Abelo and highlights ATR’s return to Kenya. Our aircraft offer lower operating costs, enhanced comfort, and improved connectivity for communities across the country.”
Tanzania’s Precision Air, a key ATR customer, has also championed the ATR aircraft, with eight ATRs in their fleet. They benefit from the aircraft’s low fuel consumption, high efficiency, and cost-effective maintenance.
This new milestone for Renegade Air comes on the heels of ATR’s recent partnership with Ethiopian MRO, which is expected to boost ATR’s presence in Africa and the Middle East by enhancing customer support and expanding its market reach.
