Air Botswana Welcomes the New Embraer E175 to Its Fleet
Air Botswana is excited to introduce the newest addition to its fleet, the Embraer E175, named Kalahari. This 88-seater aircraft is now the largest in the airline’s fleet, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing transformation journey. The aircraft was officially unveiled in a ceremony attended by President Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, Minister Eric Molale, Air Botswana CEO Ms. Lulu Rasebotsa, and other distinguished guests.
The Embraer E175, Kalahari, will begin operating on new routes between 1st September and 1st November 2024, furthering Air Botswana’s commitment to providing enhanced travel experiences for its passengers. The airline’s slogan, #GoingYourWay, reflects its dedication to offering smoother and more efficient journeys across Botswana and beyond.
Aaron Munetsi, CEO of the Airline Association of Southern Africa, shared his insights during the launch event, calling this a great moment for both Air Botswana and Botswana’s aviation sector. “When you talk about transformation, this is the kind of transformation that excites us,” Munetsi said, emphasizing that the airline’s growth is not just a milestone for Air Botswana, but a significant step forward for the nation’s infrastructure and global presence.
President Masisi, in his keynote address, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming Botswana’s aviation sector as part of a broader national development strategy. He highlighted the recent expansion of infrastructure, including the revitalization of key airports, which is crucial for facilitating economic growth and improving the quality of life for citizens. The acquisition of the E175 is seen as a major milestone in this journey, underscoring the government’s dedication to modernizing the nation’s air travel capabilities.
“Enhancing our aviation infrastructure is not just about connecting places it’s about connecting people, opportunities, and the future of our nation,” President Masisi stated, underscoring the importance of a strong aviation industry in driving economic diversification and fostering international trade, tourism, and business opportunities.
Minister of Transport and Public Works, Honourable Eric Molale, shared an overview of Air Botswana’s exciting transformation plan. The strategy includes introducing locally produced snacks onboard, creating advertising spaces on the aircraft for local businesses, and expanding the airline’s fleet and routes. These initiatives reflect Air Botswana’s commitment to improving the travel experience and supporting local communities.
Air Botswana CEO, Ms. Lulu Rasebotsa, expressed her enthusiasm about the airline’s future during her welcoming remarks at the launch. She highlighted that the E175 is just the first of four new aircraft that will be added to the fleet, featuring a fresh livery to usher in a new era for the national airline. “These new aircraft will ensure on-time performance and increase operational efficiencies,” Rasebotsa said.
Acting Board Chairperson Ms. Keamogetse Mpudi, in her vote of thanks, expressed strong confidence in Air Botswana’s future with the support of relevant ministries.
